How to Check Status Online

ICP Visa Status Check: Complete Guide

Last updated: 10 September 2026

If your visa file belongs to any emirate except Dubai, ICP is your tracking home. Here is exactly how to check an application, a visa, or an Emirates ID on it — without an account, in a few minutes.

What ICP covers

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) manages residency, entry permits, and Emirates ID federally — serving Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah files. (Dubai files: see our GDRFA Dubai guide.)

A status check needs no account. Full ICP services (applications, renewals, your complete file) require signing in with UAE PASS on the ICP portal.

Official source: Always confirm the latest requirements on the official website: ICP icp.gov.ae.

The fastest route: the File Validity tool

ICP has a dedicated, no-login page for exactly this. Go straight to the File Validity service at smartservices.icp.gov.ae/echannels/web/client/default.html#/fileValidity. It checks residency, visit visa, and Emirates ID files in one place — no account required.

The different ways you can search

The strength of this tool is that it accepts several different identifiers, so you can check with whatever number you have to hand. Three choices stack together:

First, choose "Search By":

  • File No. — if you have the file number from your visa or entry permit
  • Passport Information — if you only have your passport details

Next, "Select the Type" — this tells ICP which record you want:

  • Residency — for a residence file / residency validity
  • Visa — for a visit or entry visa
  • Emirates ID — for an Emirates ID record

Then, under "File Type", pick the identifier you will actually enter:

  • Emirate Unified Number (UID)
  • File No. — entered in parts (Department / Year / Type / Sequence), with a Four Parts or Three Parts option to match how your number is printed
  • Emirates ID Number — the 784-xxxx number on your card

Pick Search By, then the Type (Residency, Visa or Emirates ID), then the File Type identifier you have

Whichever identifier you choose, you also enter your Nationality and Date of Birth, complete the verification box, and click Search. Tick "GCC Citizen" at the top only if it applies to you.

Reading your result

The result comes back in two blocks — Identification Information (your File No. and Emirate Unified Number) and File Information, which is the part that matters. Key fields include:

  • File Status — for example Valid, or Violated if there is an overstay or cancellation issue
  • File Issuance Date and File Expire Date — when the file was issued and when it lapses
  • File Cancellation Date — shown if the file has been cancelled
  • Last Date of leaving the country and Allowed days to stay — critical if you are on a grace period or nearing expiry

The File Information block shows the status, expiry, and how many days you are allowed to stay

A "Violated" status or a low "Allowed days to stay" means act now — see our overstay fine guide. If nothing is found, a detail was likely mistyped, or the file belongs to GDRFA Dubai instead.

Checking an Emirates ID application

The File Validity tool covers an existing Emirates ID record. To track a new Emirates ID card still being processed, use the ID status service with the PRAN number from your application receipt — it shows whether the card is under processing, printed, or ready for collection.

Common mistake: entering the sponsor's details instead of the applicant's. The status is tracked on the applicant's own passport, file, or Emirates ID number — not the sponsor's.

Conclusion

ICP status checks are free, instant, and need nothing but your passport or file number. If your status is stuck or confusing, our ICP application support service reviews the file and handles the fix.

Frequently asked questions

Which emirates use ICP for visa status?
All emirates except Dubai-issued files: Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah. Dubai files are on GDRFA Dubai.
Do I need an account to check status on ICP?
Basic status inquiries are available without logging in. Full services and your complete file require login with UAE PASS.
Can I check Emirates ID status on ICP too?
Yes. The ICP platform tracks Emirates ID applications using the PRAN number from your receipt.
The portal says "no data found" — what now?
Either a detail was typed incorrectly, or the file belongs to GDRFA Dubai. Re-check the entries and the issuing emirate.
Is the ICP app the same as the website?
The UAEICP app offers the same core inquiries plus your digital documents, and is often the faster option on mobile.
