How to Cancel UAE Residence Visa
Cancellation is where small sequencing mistakes create big problems — a skipped labour step can block your next visa months later. Here is the correct order, whether you are an employee, a sponsor, or an employer.
The golden rule: labour before immigration
For employment visas, the work permit/labour contract is cancelled first (MOHRE for mainland; the free zone authority for free zone jobs). Only then is the residence visa cancelled with ICP or GDRFA Dubai. Reversing the order causes system errors and delays.
Dependents before sponsor
If you sponsor family, their visas must be cancelled before or together with yours. The system will not close your file while active dependents remain on it.
The cancellation steps
- Prepare documents: passports, visas, Emirates IDs, sponsor/company papers
- Labour cancellation (employment cases) with the employee's signature
- Dependents' cancellation (if any)
- Immigration cancellation typing and submission
- Confirmation — keep a copy of the cancellation paper
After cancellation: the grace period
You can stay legally for a limited period after cancellation. Use it to exit, transfer to a new sponsor, or activate a new visa. Count the days from the cancellation date — not from your last working day.
- Leaving the country believing the visa "was cancelled" without confirmation
- Forgetting a dependent, blocking the whole file
- Miscounting the grace period and collecting overstay fines
Conclusion
Labour first, dependents before sponsor, confirmation in hand, grace period counted. That is a clean cancellation. Our visa cancellation service types the whole sequence correctly for individuals and companies.
