Legal Translation in UAE: When You Need It and How It Works

Last updated: 20 June 2026

In the UAE, a translation is only official if it comes from a licensed legal translator — and doing it in the wrong order can waste the work. This guide explains when legal translation is required and how it fits with attestation.

Our Sharjah typing center coordinates licensed legal translation and attestation — message us on WhatsApp.

What legal translation is

Legal translation is done by a Ministry of Justice–licensed translator. Their stamp is what makes the translation acceptable to UAE courts and government bodies. An ordinary translation, however accurate, is rejected for official use.

Official source: Always confirm the latest requirements on the official website: MOFA mofa.gov.ae.

When you need it

  • Birth, marriage, and educational certificates (for visas and jobs)
  • Contracts and corporate documents
  • Court documents and legal claims
  • Any official document not already in Arabic

Order matters

Usually the original is attested first, then translated — but for some documents the sequence differs. Translating before a required stamp can mean redoing the translation. We confirm the correct order for your document.

Avoiding rejection

Common mistake: using a cheap non-licensed translation that government bodies reject, then paying again for a licensed one. Use a licensed translator the first time.

Conclusion

Legal translation must come from a licensed translator, in the right order within the attestation chain. Get both right and your document is accepted the first time. To handle translation and attestation together, message our typing center.
